Packaging FAQ's

What medications can be packaged?
All routine maintenance prescription medications can be packaged. In addition, we can include over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements. We cannot package soluble medications and “as needed” medications, but they can be filled in bottles.

What happens if I get a new medication in the middle of the month?
Your new prescription will be filled in a bottle with enough medication to get to your next packaging start date, then it will be packaged with the rest of your medications going forward.

All my medications are filled on different days. Can I use Elk Drug’s packaging service?
Yes! We will work with your insurance provider and physician to get all your prescriptions on the same schedule. We will streamline and simplify medication management by synchronizing all your prescriptions to be filled on the same day each month. Short supply of some medications will be filled in bottles to get you to your refill date.

How will I know when to take my medications?
Each pouch is labeled with the medication day, date, and time to be taken to improve convenience and reduce confusion and the risk of medication errors. Tear off the packet for the correct date and time and take the medications as you usually would.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
It depends on how long it has been since you should have taken the dose. Contact us for instructions.

Where should I store my packaged medication?
Packaging containers are not child-resistant, so they should be kept out of reach of children. Do not store the box in hot or humid conditions. Keep it in a dry spot and out of direct sunlight.

How much will packaging cost?
We accept most insurance plans. Standard prescription copays will apply. Packaging is free for Medicaid patients, patients living in a facility, and patients that qualify for the Medical at Home model. There is no additional cost for delivery. Contact us for more information on packaging costs.

I have my prescription filled by mail order or VA, can I have my prescriptions filled at Elk Drug for packaging?
Contact your insurance company and let them know that you want to receive your medications packaged at our pharmacy. They may allow an exception.

We are proud to offer the best medication packaging service in the region. All major insurances accepted. Some fees may apply.
